The Oberaargau Region Association was founded in 1967 as a pure regional planning organization. Today, the Oberaargau Regional Association operates as a private law organization on behalf of its 51 member municipalities and the 17 regional member organizations, focusing on regional planning, public transport / regional traffic, energy consulting, age planning, new regional politics, region marketing, economics, and tourism.
Touristically, the Oberaargau region is embedded within the Bern destination. Together with the Emmental, Gantrisch, and Laupen regions, these four subregions form the rural areas of the Bern tourism region.
